RARE PAIR 10 3/4 PAIR ANTIQUE TULIPIERE CROCUS POT CHINESE BLUE WHITE HAND PAINTED VASE. This listing is for A PAIR exceptionally fine and beautiful, RARE TO FIND, original vintage antique 19th century, Chinese, late Qing Dynasty Guangxu Period Chinese blue and white glazed porcelain tulip bulb tulipieres vase. Modelled as five adjoining Chinese baluster vases, in a gourd shape. Tthis tulip vase is typically decorated with stylised foliage in blue and white glazes… Decorated with such wonderful birds and floral arrangements throughout this stunning collectors piece. They have a 5 lobed body with five openings surrounding a central elongated neck having a bulbous top. They are hand decorated with blue and white floral and bird designs with pattern along the shoulder and bottom and base glazed white.. The decoration, as it is hand painted on these vases is not absolutely identical. One is slightly more clearly painted if you look closely at the birds for instance. They date from the mid to late 19th Century. The central column is filled separately and starts at the base of the vase. HEIGHT 10 3/4″ X 8″ wide approx. CONDITION: is consistent with age, which includes minor glaze crazing all over (see photos for example). There are NO chips cracks or repairs. It doesn’t look like they have had much use other than decorative. AGE : Chinese, Qing dynasty, late 19th century. MARK : no mark or signature. If you need more photos or information please message me… The 19th-century Chinese vase.. made to force bulbs to bloom or to hold cut flowers. Tulip mania, a strange financial “bubble” in Holland in the 1630s, made a tulip bulb cost up to 10 times the yearly income of a skilled craftsman, according to some writers. So the flowers became a status symbol, and the very rich or royal bought huge flower containers to grow or show the flowers. Tulip mania ended in 1637, but the flowers remained popular. A vase that is still called a “tulipiere” has numerous holes or short tubes, which hold a flower or plant. Most sources today think these vases were used for cut flowers, but they originally were used to force tulip, hyacinth or crocus bulbs to grow and bloom in the house. Collectors can find rare early Dutch tulip vases, 19th-century Wedgwood or Staffordshire vases, or Continental and American examples, all with multiple holes or tubes. I try to describe all the items as accurately and as honestly as possible, and I always include photos or scans of the actual items. My items are usually vintage or antique, very rarely new, and condition will sometimes reflect this with minor marks, wear on gilding etc. Anything major such as cracks chips or major loss of gilding etc will be pointed out in the description and shown on the photos. If you are still unsure as to the condition etc. I do my best to research the item and its history and pass that information on to my customers, you can google items and find the same information I do. Vintage or pre-owned items will often show some signs of wear due to their age, and there may be something I overlooked. Any condition outside normal vintage wear, like chips or cracks or serious defaults, will be noted. International buyers please note. Also take a look at my other items for more Asian, cloisonné, Glass, Antiques, Silver, Bronze, Copper, China, Horn, and many other collectables. Measures 3.2cm tall with a diameter of 6.5cm. There is a little wear to the rims but overall in very good condition – please see all photos for confirmation. The Tek Sing (Chinese, “True Star”). Was a large three-masted Chinese ocean-going junk which sank on February 6, 1822. In an area of the South China Sea known as the Belvidere Shoals. The vessel was 50 meters in length, 10 meters wide and weighed about a thousand tons. Its tallest mast was estimated to be 90 feet in height. The great loss of life associated with the sinking has led to the Tek Sing being referred to in modern times as the “Titanic of the East”. Sailing from the port of Amoy (now Xiamen in Fujian, People’s Republic of China), the Tek Sing was bound for Batavia, Dutch East Indies (now Jakarta, Indonesia) laden with a large cargo of porcelain goods and 1600 Chinese immigrants. After a month of sailing, the Tek Sing’ s captain, Io Tauko, decided to attempt a shortcut through the Gaspar Strait between the Bangka-Belitung Islands, and ran aground on a reef. The junk sank in about 30m (100 feet) of water. On May 12, 1999, Michael Hatcher discovered the wreck of the Tek Sing in an area of the South China Sea north of Java, east of Sumatra and south of Singapore. The Tek Sing’ s recovered cargo was auctioned by Nagal auctioneers in Stuttgart in November 2000. This item is in the category “Antiques\Asian/Oriental Antiques\Chinese\Porcelain”.
